In our household, we make it a point to use separate kitchen sponges for oily and non-oily utensils. Most designs available online only hold one sponge and don’t fit our faucet diameter.

Design Process

I started by measuring the diameter of the faucet spout. I went with a clamp-based design to better tolerate printing inaccuracies and material shrinkage.

Clamp Design Clamp design, simple yet effective.

Next, I added hexagonal cutouts on the bottom and sides. I chose hexagons because they can be printed vertically without requiring support material while providing maximum drainage.

To distinguish the sides, I added 1mm debossing for “OILY” and “NON-OILY”. The depth was set to 1mm specifically so that floating details, like the center of the letter “O”, would stay intact during the print.

Post-Processing

The clamp ended up being slightly too large. I solved this by adding adhesive rubber pads inside the clamp. This provided extra friction, protected the faucet from scratches, and perfected the fit.
